Restoration: 1983 HJ47

August 13, 2007-VIDEO UPDATE- A custom rear bumper has been design and fabricated for this HJ. At the customer's request a rear bumper is being installed so as to protect the rear bed and to be used to access a 2" receiver hitch that will ultimately be used for a custom step. This step will allow for easy access to the rear bed and jump seats. July 11, 2007- VIDEO UPDATE- Time for the test drives. July 10, 2007- VIDEO UPDATES- We are coming to the end of a long and much loved restoration. The rear jump seats are just about complete. We will be driving this Cruiser soon. June 20, 2007- VIDEO UPDATES- We have received the rear bed back from Line-X and it looks great! We placed the bed back onto the frame and will work toward bolting it down. We have also been working hard on the custom rear bench/jump seats. Watch as we custom fabricate these seats for the rear bed. June 18, 2007- VIDEO UPDATE- The diesel engine runs! We have the engine running well. The start up is now complete and we turn our attention to the custom rear jump seats to be locatd in the rear bed. We are also having the rear bed re-Line-X'ed to "fresh'en up" the appearence. Reason- the bed was Line-X'ed before they had their UV Ray Protection coating available. Look for a very clean Line-X'ed bed soon. May 11, 2007- VIDEO UPDATE- We are back on this restoration. Work now turn towards the engine. The 2H diesel engione has been through a thorough rebuild and we are about to start the engine for the first time. We do have to "hook up" many items, but will have the diesel running soon. Watch also as we install a set of custom rear bench seats in the rear bed for summer cruising on the beach. We will also "fresh'in up" the Line-X'ed rear bed that was done a few years ago. Some fading of the white color has occured and Line-X is going to take care of that issue. March 7, 2007- The 2H rebuilt diesel engine has been installed back into the HJ47 pick up. Boy does it look nice. We had to wait for many many weeks for some rather odd sized freeze plugs for the cam to arrive. But, now that process is done we will move forward. We have also intalled a new clutch kit. February 26, 2007- Here we go on the engine install. This 2H Toyota Diesel engine has been completely rebuilt by Cruiser Solutions. Putting together/ordering all the requird parts to rebuild this engine took the better part of last fall and this winter, but now we have it completed and ready to be installed back into this "one-of-a-kind" Land Cruiser. Many other items such as the starter and alternator were also rebuilt. A new clutch and pressure plate are also being installed. The fly wheel was resurfaced. All the engine parts were painted to give it a very clean look. We think the original block was blue, so blue it is. Watch next for the engine install as well as other great items to be installd....a custom built Aluminum Radiator. Friday January 19,2007 The story continues. Well, we have since sold this unique Land Cruiser to a customer whom we have already built 1 Land Cruiser for. He took an interest in this Cruiser and we sruck a deal to have him purchase this Land Cruiser. Our customer decided to take this restoration to the next level and go completely through the Cruiser. Below are the pictures of this process. Note the galvinized frame of the HJ47...nice. We also removed the cab and Line-X'ed this to match the rear bed. The engine has also been through a complete rebuilt. Monday May 23, 2005

Cruiser Solutions purchased this Land Cruiser in the fall of 2002 from Rick H. whom brought it into the states from Botswana Africa. Rick purchased it while doing peace work in Botswana back in the mid 1980's. Rick had fallen in love with this vehicle so much so that he asked the original owner if he might be able to purchase it. The HJ47 was originally used to gather supplies between South Africa and Botswana. Rick drove it around Southern Africa for a few years. The Land Cruiser provided transportation which enabled him to visit sections of the Kalahari Desert that were otherwise unreachable by foot. Rick returned to the states, with his beloved HJ, through the port of Oakland California. There he learned that he was required to pass all inspection with-in 10 days or the Cruiser would be destroyed! He spent a great deal of $ doing this and it did pass. He then made another great journey across the United States to later settle in Maine. I met Rick in the early 1990's. Our common affection for Cruisers kept us in touch with one another. Rick reluctantly sold me the Cruiser with the desire to see it restored to its "glory days" condition. I have tried to be true to this request.
